** spoiler alert ** Hanging on to Max is about a teen boy who is in his senior year of high school and has a kid named Max. The mother of the child wanted to give it up for adoption after deciding to keep it when she was pregnant. Instead, Sam, the father decided to keep it. The climax is when he meets some one from his old school and ends up going on a date with her, and ends up being her boyfriend. To have day care Sam goes to this school for teen parents while they finish their High School education, volunteers look after the kids. With Sam being the only boy in this school for teen parents, most of them are single parents, Sam’s world is changed upside down, and even more when he decides that he can’t handle single teen parenting. This book is unique because it is written from his point of view and you really see what is like to be a teen parent with only the school and his new girlfriend supporting him. From telling about who the mom of Max is, how he got his name, and one day of school, the book shows his struggles of some time in his life. And then how he tries to fit in homework, playing with max and getting ready for the SATs that he is taking, and his new girlfriend is in that study group. When his dad finds out he is taking the SATs and gets mad because Sam promised to work in construction till he could pay his dad back for all of the things he has bought that Max needed. Then ends up giving him away because he wants Max to have more than what he had, when Max turns and adult he comes and visits his father who in now married and has children of his own. I think everyone will like this, I mean for me a history person; I read it in one day. It pulls you in and once you start you can’t stop. I can only think of one type of person who would not like this, some one who hates romances and one that dislikes what you need to do have a baby. In Romeo and Juliet words they would be finalizing their marriage that they did not have. Other than that I can not think of anyone who would not like to read this book.
